workshop will include examples and stories from the field, and all questions

will be welcome. (Depending on the economic environment in February,

bonus content may cover tips on how to sustain major gifts during a

recession.)

Speaker Bios

A leader in healthcare philanthropy for more than 25 years, Jan Cady's expertise encompasses board development and engagement, major gift and campaign strategy, foundation modeling, and executive coaching for chief development officers in complex medical systems. As Executive Partner with BWF, Jan works nationally from her base in Longboat Key FL. Jan's clients include Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation, Ringling College of Art and Design, Boston Medical Center, Riley Children’s Foundation (Indianapolis) and Wisconsin Children’s Hospital (Milwaukee). Passionate about healthcare and research, her former clients include Johns Hopkins All Children’s Foundation, Children’s National Medical Center, Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, UC San Diego Health Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine, Colorado Children’s, Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, and St. Louis Children’s.

As founding president of Boston Children’s Hospital Trust, Cady built a highly successful new board and transformed the fundraising model, increasing philanthropic revenue from $13 million to nearly $100 million annually. She served previously as executive vice president of Children’s Hospital Foundation (Milwaukee) where she led another major turnaround, launched a new foundation, and dramatically grew philanthropic support. A trailblazer in hospital philanthropy, Cady has been a frequent speaker at national conferences including the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), and the Woodmark Group (top 25 North American children’s hospitals). Jan chaired AHP’s inaugural Children’s Hospital Institute and is a founding board member and former chair, the Woodmark Group.

A thought leader in healthcare philanthropy, Cady has published features in the AHP Journal and has been featured or quoted in The Chronicle of Philanthropy and other periodicals, blogs and professional publications. She received The Scott Cutlip award for outstanding philanthropy achievement in Milwaukee WI.

Cady is a member of the board of trustees, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, St. Petersburg FL. She is a member, International Women’s Forum (IWF) and currently vice president, IWF FL Suncoast board. She has served on a number of other nonprofit boards including YWCA’s across the U.S. and the Florentine Opera Advisory Board. Former board president, The Boston Club (organization of women leaders), she also forged new ground as the first woman board president, Milwaukee Athletic Club.
