Speaker Bio - Michelle P. Curtis, CFRE
Michelle is in her eighth year as a member of the senior leadership team at the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, having joined the YMCA following financial development leadership roles in performing arts with The Florida Orchestra as well as in higher education at Eckerd College. In addition to professional fundraising roles, Michelle has been active as a fundraising volunteer in St. Petersburg, serving as a board fundraising chair and in several advisory roles. Prior to her fundraising career, Michelle spent 15 years in the insurance and financial services industry. She currently serves as Co-Chair of Financial Development for the Florida Alliance of YMCA’s, is a council member for the North American YMCA Development Organization (NAYDO), serves on the Executive Committee for the YNAN Chief Development Officer Council, and currently serves as a Service Delivery Provider in Financial Development for Y-USA. Michelle also serves on the Y-USA Philanthropy Thought Leader Advisory Group and is currently the Treasurer of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Tampa Bay. She also co-leads a Leadership Affinity Group for AFP. Michelle is also a long-standing volunteer for the Junior League of St. Petersburg. In her capacity as a thought leader for philanthropy at the YMCA, Michelle is a has presented on a variety of fundraising topics nationally and internationally to include the YMCA Central and South American Network in 2023.
In her time at the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, Michelle has focused on a number of strategic fundraising initiatives including the creation of a multi-year giving society, major gift process and growth, and grant administration. Under her leadership, the YMCA has experienced significant increases in annual giving, runs an impactful and critical direct response campaign annually, has made significant progress with developing a major gift program and has experienced a 10-fold increase in grant funding from a variety of sources, including state and federal government. The YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg is currently nearing completion of a $26 million capital fundraising campaign for its new Speer YMCA, a significant partnership with Pinellas County Schools and several other organizations that will realize a YMCA and a public middle school sharing a campus and so much more and is part of a broader $60+ million comprehensive fundraising campaign.
